Cosmetic Vessel

Small stone jar for cosmetics. Amphora shaped with two lugs. Rim chipped. Sticker on the inside: 86/6. New Kingdom? Wellcome Historical Medical Museum no. not recorded. Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 1913, 20-24 January Lot 186: Four similar Unguentaries of varied size; another of varied shape, the sides sloping inwards towards the projecting lip; and un uncertain object (a weight?); all of alabaster. CONDITION NOTE (1998): Rim chipped, scratched, surface, worn.
