Cosmetic Vessel

Carved stone jar of the type used for kohl eye makeup. Compare shape with W. M. F. Petrie, 'Stone and Metal Vases' (London, 1937) no. 741. Base is marked in blue pencil: H11. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Rim chipped, discoloured, worn, surface dirt. Danson Catalogue 1 no.133 "10 kohl pots - 8 alabaster, 1 black stone & 1 slate. Found by Prof. Garstang at Abydos, 1906 - also 4 kohl sticks".
