Cosmetic Vessel

Carved stone jar of the type used for kohl eye makeup. Compare shape with W. M. F. Petrie, 'Stone and Metal Vases' (London, 1937) no. 732. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Broken, large area of loss at rim, surface dirt. Danson Catalogue 1 no.133 "10 kohl pots - 8 alabaster, 1 black stone & 1 slate. Found by Prof. Garstang at Abydos, 1906 - also 4 kohl sticks".
