Granite cosmetic vessel with collar and lid. The pot has a flat base, slight foot, shouldered, constricted neck and wide flat rim. Speckled translucent white and black granite stone. Rev. William MacGregor collection number 3664 is printed in red ink on a rectangular white sticker on the edge of the rim. Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 26 June - 6 July 1922 (MacGregor Collection) Lot 1075/6: "A Vase, of globular form, with short neck and slight ring lip, in brown marble, 2 1/4 in. high; a Kohl-Vase, in greenish-grey granite, 1 3/4 in. high, with lid, in mottled granite, both found at Negadah, archaic period; a Bowl, with high shoulders sloping to a narrow base and with rounded sessile lip, in grey granite, 1 1/2 in. high, Ancient Empire; also a small Vase, in black steatite; and a miniature Vessel, in grey and white marble, 5/8 in. high."
