On display

Green Egyptian faience cosmetic pot in the form of a hedgehog with vase top and flat handle projecting from the animal's back. Spines indicated by cross-hatching. The hedgehog was revered in Egypt from early times, probably for its nocturnal habits and its ability to make its way in the dark; for its connection with renewal and rebirth due to its reappearance after hibernation; and for its ability to defend itself against much larger animals.
