Countess of Oxford

Jane Elizabeth Scott was born in 1774 and married Edward Harley, 5th Earl of Oxford in March 1794. In 1797, Hoppner exhibited at the Royal Academy a full-length portrait of her with her infant daughter, Lady Jane Elizabeth Harley. The painting was well received and so in 1798 he painted another portrait of the Countess for the Academy, of which this is a close copy, perhaps made for engraving purposes.
