Cream cup

LL 1599

Information

A small cup with a pierced cover, in blue jasper with an applied white jasper net pattern. Shown here on the left of the image. Many of these delicate pieces did not survive firing in the kiln. Small cups like this were made for serving desserts such as ice cream, custard or cream, but not drinks. They were used during the dessert course. The dessert was an elaborate course with many different types of sweetmeats, custards etc. The whole table would have been decorated with the best tableware, flowers, fruit and fancy decorations made from sugar.
