Information

French artist Jules Chẻret pioneered the idea of the poster being an artistic statement rather than just the carrier of information. Chéret made advances to lithography in the mid-19th century and contributed to the mass production of posters. This work depicts the new artistic combination of bright colours with basic information in bold lettering. The most important sector of Cunard’s business was a regular passenger and cargo service between Liverpool and New York. At this time, Carmania and Caronia were the fastest and largest passenger ships in the world.
