Design for Figure of Speed on George's Dock Ventilation Station, Liverpool

The Sculptor Edmund C Thompson worked with the Liverpool architect Herbert J. Rowse (1887-1963) on the distinctive 1930's decoration of the Mersey Tunnel entrances and ventilation towers, and the Philharmonic Hall in Hope Street. Its curving, streamlined forms are typical of the period. The long sleek lines of this drawing convey motorised speed.
