Design for a Fountain

Information

The Sculptors Thompson and Capstick worked with the Liverpool architect Herbert J. Rowse (1887-1963) on the distinctive 1930's decoration of the Mersey Tunnel entrances and ventilation towers and the Philharmonic Hall in Hope Street. It is not clear if this design for a fountain relates to one of their projects in Liverpool or to another of Rowse's buildings, the United Kingdom pavilion at the 1936 British Empire Exhibition in Glasgow. Its curving, streamlined forms are typical of the period.
