Dinner at the Garrick

LL 3914

Information

During the 1930s and 1940s, Edward le Bas painted a number of restaurant scenes. The title of this one refers not to the famous Garrick Club in London but probably the Garrick Hotel and Restaurant that was at Charing Cross until 1965. Le Bas' diary records that he was at the Garrick Hotel on 22 March 1946. The seated male figure in the foreground is thought to be the artist's close friend and fellow artist, Charles Ginner.
