Information
Bond was a marine and landscape artist. He was born in Knotty Ash near Liverpool in 1833. He was apprenticed in Liverpool to Thomas Griffiths in picture restoration and cleaning. Bond began to sketch and was advised by the Liverpool-based merchant and collector John Miller (about 1796 - 1876) to become an artist. Bond went on to exhibit in London at the British Institution and Royal Academy, and at the Liverpool Academy and Liverpool Autumn Exhibitions. Watercolours formed a significant part of his output. For a while he came under the influence of the Pre-Raphaelites. This is evident in the minute detail of his landscape painting. Later in his career Bond made a speciality of seascapes, adopting a style inspired by Turner (1775 - 1851).
