Study for Edward Irvine Halliday's 'Athena and Arachne' in the Walker Art Gallery collection or one of his Athena panels for the Liverpool Atheneum. In Greek mythology Arachne was a talented but boastful spinner and weaver who insulted the goddess Athena in a contest. In punishment Athena transformed her into a spider.
