Information

Pair of disc earrings: thin discs of gold with filigree decoration on outer surface, and on the back surface a small cylindrical tube set in a very shallow boss worked with 16 convex petals in relief. At the tip of the cylindrical stud is a tiny loop, through which a larger ring and safety chain arrangement (missing) would have fastened the earring in a pierced ear. Traces of black on the stud may be from a silver ear-post. The discs are covered with filigree set off by granulation: raised edge, borders of beaded and twisted wire, beading, two rows of spectacle volutes, and a large central rosette of eight petals constructed of gold sheet and set off with granulation for the centre and outlines of the petals. The outer border of wire is beaded, all other wires are twisted.
