The aspirations and needs of passengers changed over time. More people had time and money to tour, rather than just commute from one place to another. The new approach was quickly picked up by the sailing companies and found its reflection in the advertising subjects and design. Overseas scenes showing ‘exotic’ locations and local people became part of the standard imagery of the shipping poster.
