Elsie Farleigh
WAG 6495
Information
Meninsky was born in Ukraine but moved to Liverpool at just six weeks old. This portrait shows both his skill for painting and drawing.
Elsie Farleigh was an artist who painted under the name of Anne Neville. She was a member of the London Group, an artists’ circle that Meninsky joined in 1919. Broad, loose brushstrokes roughly outline Farleigh’s shape and the chair. Her face is the most carefully painted element.
