Information

This watercolour painting depicts a set design for the play 'Queen Victoria'. The scene depicts an entrance hall. The set design is of a grand open space. The walls are lined with large pillars and large draped red curtains. In the centre of the back wall is a wooden door which opens to two steps down to the floor. Above the door is an arched window. On the left wall for the viewer is a piece of wooden furniture, possible a cabinet or wardrobe. On the left side of the back wall is a red and gold chair. On the other side are two red and gold chairs and a small table, draped with a red fabric. The left side of the stage is in shadow, but light appears to enter through a window (not depicted) on the right wall, shining on the section with the two chairs and table.
