Information

This is one of a group of drawings by British artist and book illustrator Edward Francis Burney, depicting scenes from Greek and Roman history and mythology. In this drawing, Amphiaraus fails to notice that his wife, Eriphyle, is being bribed by Polyneices with a beautiful necklace belonging to Harmonia. He persuaded her to convince her husband to join the Seven against Thebes. Eriphyle was later bribed with Harmonia's wedding veil and was finally murdered by her son for her betrayals.
