Eustache Le Sueur

An engraving of a portrait of the French painter Eustache Le Sueur [1617-1655]. It is an above-chest portrait set within a double-edged decorative oval. The sitter is turned slightly to the left, yet facing front, directly gazing out. The rest of the canvas, outside the oval, is finely parallel-hatched horizontally, while the lower part has various inscriptions against the vertically hatched background. This etching seems to be based on a self-portrait by Le Sueur.
