Information

Machine-made lace was especially popular for evening wear during the 1950s and early 1960s. For centuries, lace was made by hand from natural linen thread using either needles or bobbins. It was a laborious and expensive process. Synthetic laces, made from rayon and then nylon on a variety of machines, could be made much more quickly and were cheaper than ever before.
