Eventide

Terence Parkes (1927 - 2003), better known as 'Larry', was one of the most prolific and popular of British cartoonists. He produced a series of cartoons based on famous paintings at the Walker and Lady Lever Art Galleries, satirising current events and art. The painting in the image is 'Eventide: A Scene in the Westminster Union' by Sir Hubert von Herkomer (WAG 751). Larry has altered the scene to show a figure in the top left corner yelling 'Fire!' although there seems to be little reaction to it from the other people in the scene.
