Signed to the Cavern Artistes Ltd. management company, The Excelles were a Tamla Motown covers group known for their intricate harmonies. Their first major gig in 1964 was an appearance on Radio Luxembourg’s Sunday Night at The Cavern. This photograph captures a rare on-stage female performance in a largely male-orientated industry.
