Excited Soldiers and Men Watching Two Men Opening a Tomb(?)
WAG 1995.343
Information
A pen, ink and grey wash drawing showing a large crowd gathered around two men opening a tomb [?] on the ground, in the centre. Immediately above the tomb that's being opened is an overhanging rock, on the left, and tall trees on the right. Some figures in the crowd have their arms raised. A female figure in the centre of the paper is thought to represent St Helena [mother of the emperor Constantine] who discovered the relic of the cross on which Christ had been crucified.
