Exhaustion Cases

While fighting in France in August 1944, Richards saw temporary hospitals that had been set up for wounded soldiers. Patients can be seen wrapped in sheets, lying in rows in the wide earth trenches. Their only protection is a canvas roof. The bright reds and yellows hint at the battle outside. There is a study for this work in the Imperial War Museum.
