An Extensive View Near Stroud

From 1902, Steer developed his watercolour technique to encompass a looser, more calligraphic style and focusing more on tone and atmosphere rather than detail. The open valley of Stroud in Gloucestershire appears quietly impressive. A pencil drawing of the same view is in the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh (no. 1152).
