Information

The first art critic to review this picture called it ‘magical’. The snowy scene is based on the Cheshire countryside. Hay married the artist Enid Rutherford and moved to Audlem in Cheshire in 1907. Hay’s limited range of colours shows that he admired the artist Whistler and the Aesthetic Movement. Whistler thought that paintings were like pieces of music. To him colour tones could produce visual harmony. Whistler thought that paintings were like pieces of music. To him colour tones could produce visual harmony.
