Information
Edward Carter Preston studied at University College Liverpool's department of Applied Art, when it was known as the Art Sheds (because of the building's makeshift appearance). He studied drawing, painting, modelling and decorative design, all of which informed his future professional practice.
Preston suggests the shape of the model's nude body with a few confident, fluid lines. Everything is composed of smooth curves; there are no hard edges or sharp lines, conveying a sense of the softness of the model's flesh.
