Fruit from the Sycomore fig (Ficus sycomorus). In Joseph Mayer's 1852 catalogue he notes the food and fruit in case 7 were "taken from the tombs at Thebes", and so is most likely part of an offering left in a tomb as a food for the spirit of the deceased. One 'infested' fruit is within a glass tube. Dimensions are of the the glass topped cardboard box (pre 1941) they are kept in. This is not the display dimensions.
