Information

Solid-cast, Italic/Hellenistic era votive figure of Herakles/Hercle, nude. Rubbery body with little modelling except for heavy legs, showing knees, calves. Simplified features (nose), eyes retouched with thin, incised outline. A ridge over forehead forms a crest of topknot of hair just above the forehead, in a distinctive hairstyle reminiscent of a helmet crest. His right hand raised and pierced to hold a separate club. The left arm, broken above the elbow, was extended to hold out his lionskin (missing with hand). Corroded dark green.
