Information
Solid-cast, Hellenistic figure of Herakles/Hercle, nude except for the Nemean lionskin worn on his head, knotted around his neck and the end draped over his extended left arm. He stands with advanced left leg, stiff right, and right arm raised over his head, originally brandishing his trademark club. A knot of hair above the forehead. The anatomy and pose are those of late 4th-century and Hellenistic sculpture, with lithe, slightly rubbery limbs, and fairly smooth musculature; the facial features are blurred, but this is clearly the youthful, slim Hercle. Corroded dark green, right arm broken off below elbow; head slightly chipped.
