Figure of Guanyin, seated, wearing jewelled pendants and high head-dress. She sits on a lotus throne in front of which are two small figures of attendants. Oblong box pedestal. Porcelain, enamelled on the biscuit; the robes green. Brocaded with floral medallions and cloud patterns; the hair black; details in yellow and aubergine. The lotus throne is green with aubergine details. On the base are panels with prunus designs and archaic dragons with fungus sprays, in a pale green ground bordered by brocade patterns. Square hole at the back for offerings. The name Guanyin, also spelt Kuan Yin, is short for Kuan-shih Yin. Commonly known in the West as the Goddess of Mercy.
