Originally planned as a ten part TV series, Priest
is Liverpool writer Jimmy McGovern and director
Jane Bird’s debut feature film. McGovern, drawn
to stories of the underdog and outsider,
highlights the dilemma of faith, desire and
celibacy through a young gay Catholic priest
new to an inner-city parish in North Liverpool.
Spirituality can for some feel incompatible with sexual
diversity. Spectrum of Spirituality is a Liverpool based LGBT
interfaith partnership whose vision is of a world where
people do not have to choose between their spirituality
and their sexuality or gender identity. It was set up in 2010
to create an inclusive interfaith event for Liverpool's first
official LGBT event Pride, and continues to thrive.
