Flat Bottomed Barge - the London

WAG 4946

Painted on the back of an undated page from Portraits of the British Poets, published by Charles Baldwin in 1824. Muller was twelve years old in 1824 so it seems unlikely that this is the date of the watercolour. Muller did begin sketching at a fairly young age, embarking on a sketching tour of East Anglia in 1831. It is possible this is a scene along the Avon River, near the Bristol of Muller's birth and youth.
