Flower pot

LL 1175

Information

A white jasper flower pot which has been dipped in lilac jasper. It has areas where the lilac jasper has been cut away to reveal the white underneath. This cutting away was carried out using an engine turning lathe. The flower pot also has applied white and green jasper decoration called sprigging. The pot was designed to hold flowers but when it was not holding flowers it would have had a domed cover. The shape of the pot and its cover were supposed to be reminiscent of a temple. Wedgwood called this pattern the 'Temple of Flora'
