Backless black embossed slipper. CONDITION NOTE (1998): Incomplete, surface dry, cracking on base, holed, worn, surface loss,surface dirt, old infestation. Old label from the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum reads: "COPTIC SANDAL [200 - 600 AD] 12". Ex Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession number 31217 (check number 17703 "sandal, leather decorated in embossed lines"); purchased for Sir Henry Wellcome at Stevens' auction house, London, 6 August 1924 lot 72 "Roman wooden box containing original thread, and 12 Roman and Coptic shoes, all found in Egypt, rare".
