Front part of shoe of red leather decorated with applied strips. CONDITION NOTE (1998): Incomplete, leather very dry and splitting, holed, surface dirt, surface loss, discoloured. Ex Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession number 31217 (check number 17706 "Shoe, showing traces of embroidery"); purchased for Sir Henry Wellcome at Stevens' auction house, London, 6 August 1924 lot 72 "Roman wooden box containing original thread, and 12 Roman and Coptic shoes, all found in Egypt, rare".
