Heel portion of a shoe. CONDITION NOTE (1998): Very dry, splitting and cracking, surface loss, surface dirt. Ex Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession number 31217 (check number 17710 "Portion of leather sole, Coptic"); purchased for Sir Henry Wellcome at Stevens' auction house, London, 6 August 1924 lot 72 "Roman wooden box containing original thread, and 12 Roman and Coptic shoes, all found in Egypt, rare".
