A French Cathedral (Rouen)
This is a view of Rouen Cathedral, a Roman Catholic church in Rouen, France. The Rouen Cathedral was a particlar favourite of the French impressionist painter Claude Monet (1840 - 1926). He painted a series of the subject in the 1890s, showing its façade at different times of the day and year to show the changing effects of light on the architecture. Menpes also produced a similar subject to this entitled 'Old Gothic Doorway, Rouen' made in 1912-13.
