Funerary Cone of Bakenamun

A complete pottery funerary cone, stamped on the round end with the name and title of the deceased. The hieroglyphic inscription reads: “For the ka [of] king's scribe of accounts of cattle, overseer of the cattle of Amun, Bakenamun, justified before Osiris”. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Chipped, previous repair, worn, surface dirt. According to a handwritten catalogue of the Sams collection Joseph Mayer purchased 25 funerary cones from Joseph Sams in 1850, "No. 87. Seals of stamps in terracotta, varying from perhaps 11 to 6 or 7 inches in length, and from 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches in diameter, at the inscribed part, all having very curious inscriptions. A remarkable collection of 25".
