Funerary Cone of Denreg

Information

Pottery funerary cone, stamped on the round end twice with the name and title of the deceased. The hieroglyphic inscription reads: "Revered one before Osiris, chief wab-priest, Denreg justified" [jmAxy xr Asjr Hrj wab dnrg mAa-xrw]. The stamped end is coloured red and the signs are now worn. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Incomplete, chipped, worn, surface dirt. Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession no. 27445A: Two Egyptian pottery model loaf-seal cones, 7" and 6½". Purchased at Stevens' auction house, London, 15 July 1924 Lot 481. Within World Museum there are 4 funerary cones inscribed for Denreg (accession nos. 1973.1.322, 1973.1.337, 1973.1.345 and 1973.4.408). There are other funerary cones inscribed for Denreg in the British Museum (accession nos. EA9658, EA68937 and EA9657), Fitzwilliam Museum (accession nos. E.86.1932 and E.P.325), Israel Museum (accession no. B66.0975) and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (accession no. 72.1786).
