Funerary Scarab Wing

Information

This winged scarab consists of three pieces: an actual scarab beetle and two separately made wings (44.19.199a-c). The left wing is of a greenish blue glazed faience, moulded with fabric impression on the obverse decorated in yellow and red paint. The underside is plain with three holes pieced round the edge for stitching to fabric or beads. Two of the threading holes are broken. The wing is broken into two peices and mended together. Glasgow Art Galleries & Museums loan sticker on the underside (only half preserved). Exhibited in Glasgow 1912-15 (no. 39cr - '12).
