Information
These Hindu idols, Ganesh and Lakshmi, along with Mother Durga and Sarasawti and Kartik, were used by the Bengali Association of Merseyside every year from 1977 as part of their Durga Puja celebrations.
Durga Puja is one of the most important religious Hindu festivals. It unites Bengali people across the world. The five-day festival, celebrated around October, reconnects family, friends and relatives. They come together to worship the victory of good defeating evil.
Ganesh is the Remover of Obstacles and Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth.
The idols were kindly donated by The Bengali Association of Merseyside and the North of England in 2009.
