George Holt II

This is thought to be a portrait of the eminent shipowner George Holt (1825 - 1896) who was the son of Liverpool cotton broker George Holt (1790 - 1861). According to Anne Holt who presented this drawing (and two other similar drawings of the Holt family WAG 8716 and WAG 8717) to the Walker Art Gallery in 1974, this drawing did not belong to her and does not depict any of the Holt family. However George Holt (dates?) believes it is a drawing of his father? George Holt (1825 - 1896) and did belong to Anne Holt and her family. There are striking similarities between this drawing and the oil painting 'George Holt ' (WAG 275) by Robert Edward Morrison (1851/2 - 1924) in the Walker Art Gallery collection.
