Gilded wooden manuscript cover or glegs shing

A deeply carved and gilded wooden manuscript cover. The carving shows three Buddhist figures seated on pedestals. Vairochana, one of the five Celestial Buddhas is on the left, Prajnaparamita in the centre and Sakyamuni Buddha on the right. This would have originally contained the Prajnaparamita or ‘Perfection of Wisdom’ text, an important volume of the Kanjur (Tibetan Buddhist Canon).
