Information
Ivory or bone handle carved with a bearded male emerging from the mouth of a fish. Bronze socket attached at one end. Traces of blue pigment on male.
CONDITION NOTE (1998): Very worn, discoloured.
Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession number 78251: HANDLES. (3) Bone, carved, two with heads, one spiral, surmounted with dolphin, one with a bronze ferule. 2 7/8" X 3/8" to 4 ¾" X 1 ¼". Egyptian. Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 12 November 1928 Lot 347.
