Large, up turned horizontal handle from a stamnos. Cast, round in section and swollen in the centre, with four deep, horizontal grooves on top surface. The rounded ends of the handle fit into two very thin, leaf shaped plaques, now broken and preserving only a portion of the upper edge. The outer surface of the plaques preserves low relief decoration of a narrow flat border, and palmette volute ornament framing the handle bases. Handle proper is complete, plaques are almost entirely missing. Very thick corrosion, mottled green, red and white This handle, slightly larger, might have come from a companion piece to M12949.
