Harlech Castle is in Gwynedd, North Wales, and has been a popular subject for many of the artists in the Walker Art Gallery's collection of works on paper.
In 1847, Pidgeon became Professor of the School of Drawing at the Liverpool Institution. He drew numerous local scenes and antiquities. In 1848, Pidgeon joined Joseph Mayer and Abraham Hume in founding the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire. Pidgeon moved back to London in January 1851 and continued to practise as a painter and teacher of art. He still exhibited at the Liverpool Academy after returning to the capital.
