A set of seven ceramic bowls, which form to make an artistic work, titled ‘Harvest’. The title choice elicits the contrast between the golden, wholesome associations of harvest time and the visceral brutality of commoditising women. The work is collaboration between two artists and is their response to studying the plight of women caught up in human trafficking. Their research was based on information and case studies provided by the POPPY project, which has investigated numerous harrowing cases of young women trafficked into the UK sex industry. The rim has a partially cut line around it, meaning the clay could be snapped off in a controlled way once it was dry. This rawness, the planned fracture, seemed appropriate alongside the images to refer to different case studies particular tricks, prices, journeys and line-ups used to allure potential victims.
