Off Hastings

Cox was particularly taken with the scenery of Hastings during a trip there in 1812. He compared it with the marine scenes of JMW Turner's (1775 - 1851) printed series the 'Liber Studiorum', particularly in the effects of storm and rain, with fishing boats and figures in their everyday occupation on the coast, and rough seas with the moon rising.
