Headrest

Model of a headrest carved with a column of hieroglyphic text with trace of blue pigment infill. Forgery? Sold at Sotheby's 1906, 19-21 Dec Lot 206: model of a head-rest in sandstone; fragments of an alabaster vase, with early inscription; a cylindrical vase, and varied small pieces. Marked in pencil "206" - the lot number at the 1906 auction. Two white labels with printed number "576" and "356" adhered to the surface. CONDITION NOTE (1998): Damage to base, white residue, pitted, discoloured, surface dirt, label adhered to surface.
